Rev. Prof. Samuel Ayete-Nyampong is an esteemed academic, ordained minister, and prominent figure in the Presbyterian Church of Ghana. His objective as an academic at Trinity Theological Seminary and an ordained minister is to teach and promote the learning of Pastoral Care and Counselling, focusing on various related fields through research and practice. Driven by a passion for serving others, he has dedicated his career to the pastoral care of the ageing population, marriage and family counselling, and conflict transformation and peacebuilding.

 

Prof. Ayete-Nyampong's educational journey is marked by his pursuit of excellence and commitment to his field. In 1989, he obtained a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree with Second Class Upper Division in Theology and Psychology from the University of Ghana, Legon. He furthered his studies and earned a Diploma in Theology (upgraded) from Trinity College, Legon, Accra in 1986-1989. Determined to deepen his knowledge and expertise, he pursued a Master of Theology (MTh) in Pastoral Care and Counselling and a Doctorate (PhD) in Practical Theology, specializing in the Pastoral Care and Counselling of Older Adults, both from Aberdeen University, Scotland, with the latter completed in 1997.

 

Aside from his academic pursuits, Prof. Ayete-Nyampong has actively engaged in various academic and professional roles. Since 2017, he has served as a Council Member for the Ghana Psychology Council, a national regulatory body overseeing professional psychological and Counselling practices in Ghana. His contributions have been recognized by the President of the Republic, who appointed him in consultation with the Council of State. Additionally, he has been a member of the Management Board at the Centre for Aging Studies in the College of Humanities at the University of Ghana, Legon, since 2017. In this capacity, he assists the Director in coordinating and organizing aging programs and courses, including short courses and post-graduate courses.

 

Prof. Ayete-Nyampong's dedication to academia extends beyond Ghana. He served as a member of the Board of Regent University College of Science and Technology from 2019 to 2022. Furthermore, he holds the position of Theological Advisor at Evangelical Mission in Solidarity (EMS) based in Stuttgart, Germany, starting from 2018. This role reflects his international involvement and his expertise in theological matters.

 

Throughout his career, Prof. Ayete-Nyampong has made significant contributions to Trinity Theological Seminary, where he served as a member of the Council from 2012 to 2019. His commitment to ethical research practices is evident in his tenure as the Chairman of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) of the College of Health Sciences at the University of Ghana from 2002 to 2012. During this time, the board reviewed approximately 1000 protocols and studies covering a wide range of disciplines from biomedical to humanities, originating from both the University of Ghana and foreign universities.

 

Prof. Ayete-Nyampong is the Vice President of the World Communion of Reformed Churches (WCRC) based in Germany with over 100 million members around the world. Also, the Immediate Past President of the African Association for Pastoral Studies and Counselling (AAPSC).

 

Additionally, Prof. Ayete-Nyampong has shared his knowledge and expertise through his role as a facilitator for the Annual Family Life Counselling Courses at the Presbyterian Women's Centre in Abokobi since 2015. Moreover, he has served as a tutor, teaching Psychology and Pastoral Care and Counselling, at the Ramseyer Training Centre (RTC) in Abetifi from 1991 to 1992.

 

Rev. Prof. Samuel Ayete-Nyampong's distinguished career, rich educational background, and numerous academic engagements demonstrate his profound dedication to pastoral care, counselling, and research. Through his expertise and commitment, he has contributed significantly to the advancement of his field and positively impacted the lives of many individuals.
